Kathmandu To Chitwan

Tues. 9.5.17  Time to leave Kathmandu (had enough of the craziness & pollution!) so up at 5am, out by 6 and herded on to a tiny minibus by 7. It was raining so hanging around to get on a bus was a pain. We weren't expecting a minibus but went with it - cautiously watching our rucksacks being pulled onto the roof bars and covered with a tarp. The journey was torturous - about 9 hrs with a lot of the way driving on roads full of mud/puddles/potholes/rocks. Every time the bus hit a hole the driver would exclaim 'Allah' which must have worked because we didn't break down!! We also had to sit next to a big Russian guy who was getting rather hot/bothered - he didn't talk much/no smiling and kept demanding the sliding door was opened when we were stuck in various queues of traffic as he was cooking in the bus (along with everybody!). We got to Chitwan by 3pm and were very glad the accommodation people were there to pick us up as arranged. Our accommodation is at Eden Jungle Resort and it's beautiful - lush gardens and individual lodges around the same. Ours has a double and single bed, tv, fan and bathroom with a working wall mounted shower! Our first evening we ventured out for a walk and got fed/watered in town - a balcony restaurant so we could look down on the elephants being ridden in the street below. We treated ourselves to some well deserved cold beers and went back (in the dark with our torches) to our lodge to get over the journey from hell. We love Chitwan!!
